Messiaen’s Harawi is a song of love and death and eternity that comes from another world. Harawi is a South American version of the Tristan legend set to a mixture of surrealistic poetry, symbols of Peruvian mythology and sequences from the ancient Quechua language. It is one of the great vocal works of the Twentieth Century.
